To support programs that will take place primarily in rural and downstate Illinois, including: two Museum on Main Street exhibitions, the Road Scholars speakers bureau, community grants, and a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Riders. Urban disadvantaged constitutents will be served by the Odyssey educational program and Meaning of Service, for 140 low-income young adults in public service.

The IHC seeks funding for We the People in Illinois for statewide programs including Museum on Main Street, Illinois Road Scholars Speakers Bureau, the Meaning of Service, the Odyssey Project, the Freedom Riders 50th Anniversary series, the Meaning of Service and the Community Grants Program. These programs will explore American roots music, civil rights history, American literature and other important topics in American history and culture.The programming will benefit primarily rural and downstate audiences, as well as low-income residents in Chicago.
