With $111,230 in outright We the People funds, The Humanities Council SC will sponsor a variety of programs that instill appreciation of national history and collective experience in America. The Humanities Council SC will host the 15th Annual South Carolina Book Festival on May 13 - 15, 2011, presenting a variety of scholars and authors who present the American experience through both nonfiction and fiction. The Humanities Council SC will support the traveling Smithsonian exhibition project "New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music," as it travels to 12 rural communities in South Carolina. Finally, The Humanities Council SC will support two special community projects, 2011 National History Day in South Carolina and the Folklife and Traditional Arts Survey. These projects will reach approximately 46,000 South Carolinians of all age levels and all backgrounds, expanding knowledge of American history, culture, and government in South Carolina.
