We the People Projects in Texas

FAIN: BC-50528-10

Humanities Texas (Austin, TX 78701-1506)
Michael L. Gillette (Project Director: March 2010 to August 2014)

To support six summer residential institutes for teachers whose topics are central to Texas's 8th grade social studies curriculum; to distribute the poster series "A President's Vision" to Texas schools; to expand traveling exhibitions; to support radio and television programming; to award grants for public programs that explore significant events in American history and culture; and to hold a public lecture with a distinguished speaker in the humanities.

With support from the 2010 We the People Project Grant for State Humanities Councils, Humanities Texas will conduct six major teacher institutes examining important issues in our nation's history; distribute a series of posters with related programs and curricular materials supporting U.S. history instruction in Texas schools; issue a request for proposals encouraging organizations to initiate projects exploring "We the People" topics and themes; develop exhibits, public lectures, and media programs, all reaching Texas's adult, out-of-school public, enhancing their understanding of local, state, and national history and culture.
