To support "On Second Thought," the Council's magazine; "Dakota Interviews," an archive of 100 interviews conducted over three years with a wide range of North Dakota residents, and Dakota Discussions, a reading and discussion program.
The "Understanding the Past, Analyzing the Present, and Envisioning the Future" project will use the tools of the humanities to help the citizens of North Dakota achieve a better understanding of the past, a better analysis of the present, and a better vision of the future. Using classic literature, oral history interviews, magazine articles, and targeted grant funding, the North Dakota Humanities Council (NDHC) strives to sharpen critical thinking skills, inform the public concerning important issues that are affecting the state, and enliven dialogue and debate across the state regarding the future of North Dakota. The project will consist of four key programs: On Second Thought magazine, Dakota Discussions, We the People grant program, and Dakota Interviews.
