Two one-week workshops for eighty school teachers on Abraham Lincoln and his role in American history, using sites in and near Springfield, Illinois.

This is a proposal for two, one-week workshops at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) and nearby historic sites associated with Abraham Lincoln in and around Springfield, Illinois. To provide teachers with an opportunity to engage in rich scholarly discussion, this workshop begins on our university campus with lectures and discussions with two noted Lincoln landmarks in Springfield. A museum studies expert, an art historian, and an historian of African-American women will provide additional lectures. Our workshop provides a unique collaboration in which teachers are immersed in the investigation of the influences contributing to forging both an American President and the modern era that followed.
