The Humanities Indicators, a unique online data resource, providing educators, policy-makers, and journalists with comprehensive, up-to-date statistical information and a nonpartisan and objective picture of the state of the humanities.
This proposal requests a renewal of the ongoing cooperative agreement between the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences to support the Humanities Indicators, a unique online data resource, providing educators, policy-makers, and journalists with comprehensive, up-to-date statistical information and a nonpartisan and objective picture of the state of the humanities. In requesting a renewal of the cooperative agreement, the American Academy seeks to build on recent successes, through analysis and dissemination of a nationwide study of the humanities in community colleges, the development of a national inventory of humanities organizations, as well as preliminary work on a third survey of humanities departments. An endowment from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation covers the basic maintenance costs of the project, but continued support from the NEH will allow the project to conduct original research and fill gaps in the available data.
