Adaptive reuse of an historic property to house and an endowment to help acquire new materials for the Library’s Story Center Collections.
The Story Center at Mid-Continent Public Library, an innovative concept in library service, will build the capacity of individuals, organizations, businesses, and communities to create, understand, and share stories. The Story Center will provide a national resource for unique collections and programs focused on written, oral, and digital stories. The Story Center will be housed on a unique, historic property called "Woodneath." The Woodneath Estate is located in Kansas City, MO and offers the historic Elbridge Arnold home (1855) as an expansion of the Story Center's programs and exhibits. The project proposes support for the adaptive reuse of the historic home as well as the creation of the Story Center Endowment.
