Endowment for the Academy Fellow, a key humanities position in the Academy's library, and for humanities programming.

The Academy is raising $1,600,000, in Endowment to support the position of Academy Fellow -- a key position in the Academy's Library. Although our request for $250,000, is modest for the Challenge Grant program, support for this principal library position will be a major step toward implementing the Academy's new strategic plan. The Academy Fellow -- a humanities-focused position unique to The Academy of Natural Sciences among natural history museums both in the U.S. and abroad -- is responsible for creating a broad awareness of the Academy and its Library and for interpreting the institutution's unrivaled resources in the humanities to both scholars and the general public. The NEH Challenge Grant will enable the Academy to transform its commitment to humanities scholarsip by making it permanent and full-time, as well as fully funding, the position of Academy Fellow. The grant will also provide for the first time humanities programming funds to be administered by the Fellow.
