Endowment for programming and staff, including a part-time copy editor for the journal Gesta.

For close to a half-century the International Center of Medieval Art (ICMA) has promoted the study, understanding, preservation, and appreciation of medieval art and culture. The Center supports scholarly work on the visual culture of the Christian, Jewish, and Islamic Middle Ages, and facilitates its dissemination to academic and public audiences. It publishes the scholarly journal Gesta and monographs including the multi-volume Census of Medieval Sculpture in American Public Collections; organizes conference sessions, symposia and lectures; maintains a publicly accessible Web site; and has supported lecture programs. Anticipating our 50th Anniversary in 2006, we seek to strengthen and expand our programs and publications for the benefit of teachers, students, scholars, and the general public interested in the Middle Ages. To accomplish this we must increase our endowment by $700,000. We request $175,000 from the NEH to help us (1) support and expand our lecture programs and symposia on medieval art and culture; (2) improve our publications with the addition of a part-time copy editor, while making these publications more accessible through our Web site; and (3) provide modest support for office administration to manage and promote these expanded programs.
