Endowment of a preservation fund for the society's library and archives.

The Wisconsin Historical Foundation seeks a $500,000 challenge grant to reach a goal of $2.5 million for a North American History Preservation Endowment to benefit the Wisconsin Historical Society’s library and archives. The Society’s North American history collections are recognized as a major humanities resource for studying all aspects of history north of the Rio Grande River, from first contact between European and Native American cultures to the present. The endowment will provide continuous support for protecting the collections and making them accessible for research, classroom use, exhibits, and public programs. It will enable the Society to complete its 2002-07 preservation improvement plan and to develop a new phase of planning.
