Endowment for humanities programming in the new South Dakota Center for the Book.

The South Dakota Humanities Council is requesting a $70,000 NEH Challenge Grant to establish a $350,000 endowment to support its newest program, the South Dakota Center for the Book. The SDHC qualifies for a 4 to 1 match after successfully completing a prior NEH Challenge Grant awarded in 1997. The Center for the Book focuses on non-fiction authorship and research, the literary arts, an annual Festival of Books, a literary talk show, the "One Book South Dakota" program, literacy projects, the youth writing contest "Letters about Literature," and other packaged reading programs for the citizens of South Dakota.
