Challenge Grant for "Endowment for Library Technology"

FAIN: CH-50342-07

American Philosophical Society (Philadelphia, PA 19106-3309)
Martin L. Levitt (Project Director: November 2005 to October 2011)

Endowment for library technology, including preservation, access and outreach, and technology management.

The American Philosophical Society seeks to establish an Endowment for Library Technology. Technological demands are a central concern of the APS Library given its focus on the history of science, a field that, by its nature, tends toward the use of cutting-edge technologies. With the changing frontiers of scientific research and the technological tools used to conduct it, future Library acquisitions will include an increasing number of non-paper items. The new endowment will provide for the stewardship and management of digital assets, including those that are born digital, funding operations and staffing needed for preservation, administration, and access and outreach activities.
