Renovation and expansion of the Maine Historical Society Research Library.

This proposal seeks an NEH Challenge Grant of $500,000 in support of a $7.1 million dollar capital campaign that will renovate and expand the MHS Research Library. The Research Library is the heart of all our activity in the humanities -- supporting scholarship, publications, educational programming, exhibitions, Internet outreach services, and a number of strategic partnerships. A fundraising feasibility study and preliminary campaign activities were conducted in 2005 resulting in an ambitious, multi-phased capital development plan to transform the Maine Historical Society's physical facilities, build its endowment, and expand public access to the resources of history.
