The Lake County Centennial Library Project Enhancements for the Humanities

FAIN: CH-50683-10

Lake County Library District (Lakeview, OR 97630-1517)
Amy Hutchinson (Project Director: May 2009 to November 2013)

Funding supports construction costs for the humanities-related portions of a new public library facility serving rural Lake County in eastern Oregon.

The Lake County Library is seeking a $300,000 challenge grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. This grant, when matched with $900,000 to be raised locally, will create a new home for our humanities collection, and offer expanded opportunities for lifelong learning and humanities related community programming while interpreting the local history of rural Oregon. Our request is part of a community volunteer effort to raise $2,822,684 to build an accessible, community oriented, energy and technology efficient, 10,113 square foot main library by October 2010. Since December 2007, we have raised $667,580 toward this challenge grant match of $900,000. This proposal is based on direct support of the 6,169 square feet within the main library which houses all of the humanities collections, historical displays, community rooms, areas dedicated to humanities programming activities, and public computer areas.
