Connecting the Humanities: Innovative Programming for the New Mandel Center for the Humanities

FAIN: CH-50745-10

Brandeis University (Waltham, MA 02453-2728)
Adam B. Jaffe (Project Director: May 2009 to July 2011)
Susan J. Birren (Project Director: July 2011 to January 2016)

Funding supports a post-doctoral fellow, faculty and course development, and a coordinator for the Mandel Center for the Humanities through a ten-year spend-down fund and an endowment.

Brandeis University recently received a $22.5 million gift to build a physical structure for a new Center for the Humanities on campus. To bring the building to life, the Challenge Grant would enable us to invest in unique, multidisciplinary humanities programs and people with the values, passion and commitment to change the future of humanities on campus, in the region and possibly beyond. By building on existing University strengths, the Challenge Grant will provide funding for immediate use, as well as an endowment, to ensure that this new Center has a substantial and visible impact and the potential to continue its activities.
