Endowment and bridge funding for the programs in a new Humanities Institute at Wake Forest University.

Wake Forest University seeks a 2011 NEH Challenge Grant to support the establishment of a Humanities Institute that will strengthen and advance its historical commitment to humanistic teaching and research by promoting interdisciplinary collaborations among faculty, students, and community. Our four-pronged plan for programming will: (1) expand over the next five years with annual support of $30,000 for faculty seminars and collaborative seed grants to enhance faculty development and establish a broad culture of humanities-based research and engagement; 2 foster sustained faculty/student collaboration in the humanities, with $10,000 in annual support for university-wide forums, symposia, and speakers series; 3) collaborate with the Z. Smith Reynolds Library to establish a digital humanities repository and other resources; and 4) organize public forums and off-campus projects, with $10,000 in annual support for our Winston-Salem Partnerships in the Humanities Program.
