Sonoma County Museum: Collections Initiative

FAIN: CH-50884-12

Museum of Sonoma County (Santa Rosa, CA 95401-5233)
Diane Evans (Project Director: May 2010 to January 2016)

Endowment for collections care and a collections registrar position, and the retrofitting of a warehouse space with museum-quality storage equipment.

The Sonoma County Museum seeks a $300,000 Challenge Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to support the Collections Initiative of the Museum’s capital and endowment campaign. The goals of the initiative are to secure the long-term storage and management of the Museum’s collections, and to ensure the Museum’s ability to make collections accessible to the public. The Museum’s permanent collections are core to the Museum’s humanities programming and mission. The $1.2 million in Challenge Grant funds will be used to support two projects: 1) $200,000 in capital costs to support the renovation of a warehouse owned by the Museum for use as a collections storage facility and, 2) $1 million for the endowment of a new Registrar position and the programs associated with making collections accessible to the public.
