Preserve+Share+Produce Humanities Initiative within The Archives at Illinois College

FAIN: CH-51170-14

Illinois College (Jacksonville, IL 62650-2299)
Elizabeth H. Tobin (Project Director: May 2013 to August 2016)
Catharine O'Connell (Project Director: August 2016 to February 2022)

Renovation of the College Archives, fundraising activities, and endowment for the Preserve+Share+Produce (P+S+P) Humanities Initiative.

Illinois College requests a $200,000 grant that we will match with $600,000 in new donations to launch the Preserve+Share+Produce Humanities Initiative. Through this Initiative, we will preserve archival materials; share them broadly with students, researchers and the public; and produce new resources to enhance the understanding of the history of society and institutions in central Illinois. We envision that each year, students, faculty and other scholars will produce at least five new or continuing substantive projects based on their work in our newly housed and professionally managed Archives. As a consequence, the College's focus on the humanities will increase and the products of our work will enhance humanistic knowledge. This Initiative will expand and improve the facilities of The Archives at Illinois College within Schewe Library; provide substantial support to increase an Archivist position from part- to full-time; and strengthen research and teaching in the humanities.

Khalaf Al Habtoor Archives at Illinois College (Center)
Name: Khalaf Al Habtoor Archives at Illinois College
Abstract: A key feature of Illinois College's Preserve+Share+Produce Humanities Initiative is the creation of the Khalaf Al Habtoor Archives within Illinois College's Schewe Library. The College's new archival facility more than triples the previously available archival storage capacity, and adds a spacious, dedicated archival processing area and a research area that allows scholars and researchers to access archival materials. It also provides space for faculty to work on projects with entire classes.
