Renovation of an existing facility to create a 450-seat presentation space with moveable walls, a kitchen, and a stage, in a modern style influenced by traditional Korean aesthetics.
The Korean Cultural Center of Chicago (KCCoC) requests $600,000 to renovate its current facilities and create a 450 capacity presentation space. The mission of KCCoC is to promote and organize Korean cultural, educational, arts, and community-building activities. Since opening in 2010, KCCoC has become the leading destination in the Midwest where all communities can celebrate Korean culture and heritage through programs that examine the Korean and Korean American experiences. Through this project, KCCoC seeks to significantly increase the organization’s capacity, raising its ability to deliver humanities programs to a larger, multi-cultural audience. Currently, through programs, holdings, and other activities, KCCoC hosts approximately 80,000 visits annually. A special capital campaign leveraging the proposed project with KCCoC’s 10th anniversary will support the grant’s match requirement.
