Stephen F. Schnabl (Project Director: March 2004 to June 2006)

Endowment for a part-time position of Director of Exhibits and Programs.

Butler County Historical Society is requesting $100,000 from NEH that will be matched to create an Endowment to fund a new humanities staff position. Interest from the Endowment will be used to employ a part-time Director of Exhibits & Programs, responsible for development of new humanities programming. Humanities program priotities are: (1) oral histories and exhibits to expand coverage of 20th century local history and inclusiveness of multicultural groups living in Butler County; (2) document shift from farmland to urban area of West Chester and Liberty Townships; (3) research and develop traveling exhibits to increase accessibility of local history for all residents of Butler County. These priorities reflect the objectives of the BCHS Strategic Plan. With the assistance of the NEH Challenge Grants, BCHS will continue to move beyond the limitations of providing humanities programming related solely to its historic house museum. BCHS would be able to build upon the firm foundation now in place, and to increase its ability to reach the 333,000 residents of Butler County, and regional population of nearly 2 million, with quality humanities programming.
