FAIN: CZ-50118-06

Duke University (Durham, NC 27705-4677)
Michael A. Gillespie (Project Director: February 2005 to July 2011)

Endowment for a visiting professorship, undergraduate seminars, lectures, and an annual conference in a program in American values and institutions.

Duke University is applying for a We the People Challenge Grant to enhance and endow a program in American Values and Institutions. The income from this endowment will support a visiting professor who works on American political thought and institutions, a pre-doctoral fellow in the same area, a continuing series of lectures by top scholars of American political thought and values, and an annual conference focusing on a specific issue or topic in this area. The grant will free up existing funds to support first and second year programs in this area. On this basis and with foundation support, we will be able to institutionalize our seminars for college and high school teachers on teaching American government using founding documents.
