To establish and endow activities in a new Institute for the Humanities in Culture, to be guided by the theme: "Sense of Place."

Lewis & Clark Community College(L&C)will establish and endow an Institute for Humanities in Culture. The Institute will be guided by the over-arching motif, "Sense of Place" and will introduce annual themes in an ongoing humanities program that will involve: the infusion of thematic content into existing humanities courses, coordination of course-based activities with co-curricular events, faculty development, which will focus on curricular infusion into humanities courses, and community events for the public at large and for K-12 students and their teachers that embody the theme of Sense of Place. These public events will be utilized as a means to recruit regional sponsors to support the events financially in combination with ticket sales. Partners will include the Illinois Community College Board and several community agencies. The project will begin with a focus on the Rocky Fork Community, established by a group of slaves in the 19th century at a location near the L&C campus.
