Provides humanists with thorough knowledge in computer skills and information technology, particularly in areas of bibliography and information retrieval. ABSTRACT: Two 4-week sessions offering introductory programming, methods and research courses to scholars and teachers in humanities. Provides humanist with thorough knowledge in computer skills and information technology; encourages computer-oriented projects in humanities. Computer can be powerful research tool in humanities, particularly in areas of bibliography and information retrieval. Scholars in history, literature, music, languages, linguistics, political science, and classics have been exploring the potentials of the computer with increasing sophistication. Rather than support programs at individual universities, funding of Institute cuts cost for facilities and provides sufficient faculty. As individual institutions are able to enhance capabilities for computer programs and curricula can be adapted at lower cost. Institute planned at Conference on Computer Technology in the Humanities, September, 1969, sponsored by American Council of Learned Societies and National Science Foundation. Fund for staff salaries, travel, per diem, stipends for participants, computer time.
