David P. Jaffee (Project Director: October 2003 to January 2008)

A materials development project to create twelve Internet-based educational modules on central topics covered in introductory United States history courses.

The City University of New York (CUNY) seeks NEH funding to develop, test and refine a dozen interactive history laboratory modules that will be placed on the worldwide web for use in introductory U.S. History courses at CUNY and in college classrooms across the nation. These history lab modules will give students an opportunity to “practice history” as they explore key periods and issues in American history. Dozens of U.S. History faculty members with a range of specialties across CUNY will be involved in developing and testing these materials. The lab modules, which will span the U.S. history curriculum, will be placed on an “Investigating U.S. History” website, and users will be encouraged to provide feedback.
