The development of an educational archive of American speeches and public debates, with accompanying historical information and scholarly interpretations for use in the undergraduate curriculum.

The Voices of Democracy project is designed to promote the study of great speeches and public debates in the humanities undergraduate classroom. The project will provide a "full service" educational website on U.S. public oratory featuring: 1) a multimedia archive of speeches and debates, 2) historical information necessary to understand those speeches and debates, 3)scholarly interpretations of each speech or debate; 4)additional teaching-learning materials, and 5) materials illustrating the connections between historical speeches and debates and ongoing controversies in the U.S. democratic experience.
