Time Traveler Trunks: Hands-On Humanities Activities for Classrooms

FAIN: EE-50425-07

Tennessee State Museum Foundation (Nashville, TN 37219)
Paulette Marie Fox (Project Director: October 2006 to February 2012)

The creation of forty-nine activity and artifact trunks corresponding to nine historical eras in Tennessee for teachers to use in their classrooms in conjunction with a state history website.

The Tennessee State Museum proposes to develop a new hands-on classroom humanities program that will offer students the opportunity to touch the past through innovative Time Traveler Trunks covering different historical topics and themes. The museum plans to develop this outreach program in conjunction with our current National Endowment for the Humanities Tennessee history Web site grant (EE-50397-06). This project would include creating humanities activity trunks for teachers to use in their classrooms that correspond with the Web site historical eras and themes and that could also be used as independent resources. The trunks will give students opportunities to put their American history knowledge and learning skills to work by designing exhibits and many other fun activities using the artifacts and other materials provided. The trunks will promote learning for students and facilitate cross-curriculum teaching for elementary and secondary teachers.
