To develop a way to integrate the teaching of cultural elements simultaneously with the language skill. The program will be based around the notion of "cultureme," a minimum unit of cultural revealed through language and isolated through the principle of contrastive analysis, finding pairs with differ in a least one significant feature. The result of the study will be the compilation of a textbook which will be used by beginners during their intial 300 hours of Japanese learning.
