Funds for then further development of the World English Literature Program exploring the literature of non-British and non-American cultures in which English is either the native or literary language. Individual courses will trace the permutation of the original Anglo-Saxon, European assumptions as the language spread throughout the 19th and 20th century. Course instructors will study abroad for one year before returning to teach courses and hold a lecture series. Dissemination of the results will be through articles and a series of lectures to which instructors form surrounding institutions will be invited.
