Efforts to discover films to accompany his volume Lectures in Indian Civilization led the project director to identify five themes from contemporary Indian civilization for which he believes films are needed: "Village and City," "Religious Roles," "Village Culture," "Ramayana," and "Three Pilgrimages." During the final fifteen months of the project the filming will be completed in India and the 16mm color films will be organized, edited, provided with sound tracks, and submitted to India's Consulate General in New York for previewing before finally being reporduced and distributed in India and the United States.
