In order to meet the pressing need for advanced instruction in paleography, diplomatic, and codicology, and to make up deficiencies in the individual graduate schools, the Medieval Academy of America begain in 1970 to sponsor a series of Summer Institutes in basic disciplines. For support to provide a Summer Institute in Basic Disciplines to be held for five weeks in the summer 1974.
