William Ferris (Project Director: September 1973 to present)

Afro-American Studies at Yale is developing an interdisciplinary course which traces black culture from its origin in Africa through the rural South to the urban North. The purpose is to place in perspective the entire spectrum--past and present--of black culture. The course is based on a team-taught format using four specialists in African music and art history, and Afro-American rural and urban tradition.
