American Cinema: An Auteur Approach

To establish a series of courses on the American cinema. The purpose is to teach film as a distinctive form of art rather than as an adjunct to literature or sociology. The series of courses is based on the auteur theory, a systematic approach to the study of film that regards the film director as an artist and stresses the importance as in any other art, of the emergence of an artistic personality in the course of a director's career.
