FAIN: EH-10566-74

University of Dallas (Irving, TX 75062-4736)
John R. Sommerfeldt (Project Director: September 1974 to present)

To enrich the already existing undergraduate and Master's level education program which has been enhanced since the addition in 1973 of the Institute of Cistercian Studies. The Cistercian's Institute consists of an unparalled research library which will contain every resources necessary for the study of this remarkable medieval order. NEH support will help enrich the existing program by 1) guaranteeing the regular teaching of medieval Latin, historical (medieval) methodology and monastic history; 2) implementing an eight week intensive seminar in monastic studies; 3) implementing a summer term in medieval Latin and medieval studies; and, 4) guaranteeing the expanded and continued operation of the Resource Center which contains unique research materials. Program will be evaluated by participating students, university officials, and directors after the first full year of operation. Information concerning the project will appear in profession journals relating to Medieval Studies, and will be discussed at the annual Kalamazoo Conference on Medieval Studies.
