A three-week summer institute for twenty-five college and university faculty on twentieth-century immigration to the United States from East Central Europe.

As a nation of immigrants, it is surprising that the study of the various groups that came to these shores during the turbulent 20th century, under varying circumstances, is so unevenly developed. This is especially true for the diverse immigrants of East Central European origin who came to the United States during the last century, particularly in light of the significant economic, intellectual, and cultural contributions these peoples have made to their adopted country. This institute builds on the 2013 Summer Institute which deals with Russian-speaking immigration, by looking a the characteristics and experiences of specific West and South Slavic peoples, as well as Hungarians, peoples of the Baltic, and Jews from the region.
