To support a system-wide project which will appeal to all age and social groups in Houston. Central library and 4 branches serving 4 different communities (Mexican-American, Black, middle class white, and multi-ethnic) will feature a wide variety of activities (lectures forums, workshops, drama and dance exhibitions, displays, and children's activities) that foster reading in various humanities disciplines. Readings and activities will examine cultural traditions of the urban Mexican-American or will address key issues which face the Mexican-American, Black, and white communities as they interact in Houston.
