To support Summer Institutes to encourage the study of paleography by developing the linguistic area of Arabic Paleography, continuing the training of young specialists in the linguistic areas of Byzantine Greek Paleography and Latin/Vernacular Paleography, to enhance graduate and under graduate teaching, to develop new directions in research, and to explore and refine the use of videotape in the study of paleography, pioneered at the University's 1976 Summer Institute.
