Faculty-student team to develop new resources for an experimental introductory course in history. New approach to study of history centered around research project introductory course to introduce student to historical documents and methods. Faculty-student team to develop new resources for an experimental introductory course in history. Jointly sponsored by Frank Melville Memorial Library and Department of History. Team composed of two P.I.'s (on head reference librarian, the other professor of history), two members of library staff, two graduate students and six undergraduates. New approach to study of history-student-teacher investigating teams work together, using library resources, on a research project. Student gains experience in use of historical archives and original documents and in different kinds of historical writings. Success of such a course depends on the body of materials researched. Team to develop two or three such units for source materials for course use and outline entire procedure for course from assembly of materials to introduction of materials and research methods to students. Project designed to constructively channel the desire of college students to participate in the creation of curricula and to play a guiding role in their own education. Trains students members of team to develop teaching units of primary source materials and to uncover significant historical resources in the community; exposes them to sources usually introduced on the graduate level. Funds for salaries, consultant, supplies, travel (local), and communication.
