Los Angeles City College is an urban junior college with an open admissions policy located in a low-income area of Los Angeles within easy commuting distance of communities with massive concentrations of persons handicapped by living in depressed areas of the inner city. Of the 18000 student body, 13% are Mexican-Americans or Spanish surname, 32% are black, 11% are oriental, 3% are other non-white, and 1% are American Indian. 32% come from families with incomes of less than $5000 a year.
