Funds for the structuring of an undergraduate program in Arts and Sciences which will: 1) counteract the fragmentation effect of academic departments, 2) instill a sense of personal meaningfullness in the educational experience of both students and faculty, 3) encourage of a new degree of both involvement and independence on the part of the student, 4) bridge the gap between schalrship and social concern in an effective manner, and 5) do so without creating an isolated pocket of experimentation within the context of a larger unchanged whole.
