The course will fulfill a 12-hour requirement for all non-humanities majors. The course, Freedom and Authority in America: 1776-1876-1976, will be taught by four members of the committee. Each instructor will be responsible for large group presentations in his or her discipline, but all members will attend each class meeting and each member will be responsible for a seminar group which will meet at least once a week. The students will read primary sources material from each period while the instructiors will provide additional information. The course will focus upon ideas and values of each period, then relate the contrast these concepts to the next period and with contemporary society.
