Samuel Scoville (Project Director: June 1975 to present)
To allow Warren Wilson College to test a revised freshman humanities program during 1975-76, as part of a comprehensive plan for curriculum reform. To generate 2 types of courses: 1) seminars in "composing" which would expand the traditional study of composition to include active ways of learning and ways of knowing; and 2) courses and experiences designed to reflect 6 "categories of meaning" (each course will be concerned with defining and expanding a particular perspective from which man has gathered and expressed "meaning" -symbolics, empirics, aesthetics, synnoetics, ethics, and synoptics.
