In order to place the humanities on an even footing with other divisions in the college the proposed program will 1) establish the humanities as an interdisciplinary major and 2) devise new courses which will he used by undergraduates who are not in the humanities. The planning grant will be used by undergraduates who are not in the humanities. The planning grant will be used to conduct a pilot program to offer six courses; three will be "core" courses constituting the first year required sequence for humanities majors two will be humanities topics related to science and technology students and a sixth will be a special topics course for advanced students.
