Funds for the support of a four-week institute and five one-day follow up workshops on Peoples of Africa designed to prepare public school teachers for effective teaching on African Studies. Participants, 15 black and 15 non-black teachers, must enroll for 9 hours of graduate credit in 1) Seminar on African Athropology, 2) Literary and Artistic Perspectives on Contemporary Africa, and 3) Economic Geography of Africa. To provide factual information, to emphasize the human element, to correct misconceptions, to increase teaching skills.
