Project to Improve the Teaching of World history in American High Schools

FAIN: ES-10257-73

Indiana University (Bloomington, IN 47405-7000)
John M. Thompson (Project Director: September 1973 to present)

To develop multi-media instructional units for use in a one year course in world history at the 9th or 10th grade level. Each unit will make use of a variety of methods and learning tools, including case studies, primary sources, slidetapes, games, and essays. Three units ("Nationalism and Imperialism," "The Search for Social and Poltical Order in the Modern World," "The Industrial Revolution") are in the pilot stage. Instead of attempting to cover the whole range of world history in a single course, the program will focus on events of major importance to people everywhere. Funds for 1972-73 will be used to study the results of the pilot programs and to train a selected number of teachers in the content and approaches of the course.
