To produce a film and accompanying educational materials which will relate one of the roots of American culture, 19th century Shaker Society, to a 20th century flowering in the art of Constance Rourke, Charles Sheeler, and Arron Copland. The film will emphasize contemporary affinities with Shaker efforts to create a balanced, intergrated environment conductive to inner serenity. It will also focus on ways in which the artistic legacy of the Shakers has contributed to the evolution of a distinctively American style.
