Completion of study begun in The Idea of a Jewish State, first volume of a history of Isreal. Historical-sociological analysis of social, political and cultural ideologies that grew into Isreal's domestic institution. Empirical testing of sociological assumptions concerning rapid change; general application to developing countries. Designed to enlarge and refine understanding of a contemporary society whose historic culture stood near center of universal concerns and whose present condition is of critical significance. First volume analysed the history of political Zionism and the foreign relations of Isreal, concentrating on "sovereignty" as a nationalist myth and an instrument of power.
