To collect and treat manuscripts illustrating the various stages of Old Gujarati, an Indo-Aryan language. The resulting description is planned as the definitive statement of Old Gujarati. The differences in dialect in different parts of Gujarat may help to explain the phenomenon of subnationalism in India.
