Preparation for publication of a work on the crititcal writings of American author Samuel Langhorne Clemens, whose pen name was Mark Twain.

To make an interpretive study of Mark Twain's later writings by identifying major, recurring themes, tracing them chronologically through manuscripts, and noting their relationships.
