The study is concerned with the social climate of pre-Hitler Germany and its relfection in the literary works of the time. The study will not restrict itself to an intra-literary viewpoint, nor will it apply speculative jargon to literature, rather it will examine the orientations of the educated upper class in Germany by the literature wirtten for them.
