To examine the development of the French lyric into a tool for/with which the artist defines himself in terms of his craft and simultaneously proclaims the authenticity of his experience. To show how, through various generic transpositions, the lyric form both preserved and helped create important forms such as theater and new narrative compendia that poetically serve truth.
